Leland Cotton Brown

 

 

   Leland has been performing comedy since 1979. He started a band with three friends (Leland played rhythm guitar) their act consisted of a mix of popular songs and comedy sketches, which they performed at a local pizza parlor in Walnut Creek, Ca.

   In 1981, he entered the San Fransisco International Comedy Competition, placing 11th, just ahead of Steven Wright, who placed 12th. The next year Leland re-entered and came in 9th place. Then, in 1983 Leland placed 2nd, just behind Will Durst.

   Throughout the 80's Leland learned his craft by performing frequently on the road. Leland opened for Jerry Sienfeld, Gary Shndling, Paula Poundstone, Danna Carvey, Ellen Degenerous and Bobcat Goldthwait. Today his main focus is headlining comedy clubs throughout the United States, and he regularly opens concert dates for the Beach Boys, the Righteous Brothers, Dave Mason and many others.

   Catching the attention of television scouts, he performed on NBC's "Thicke of the Night", "Comedy Tonight", "Mtv's Half Hour Comedy Hour", A&E, "Comedy on the road" and "Evening at the Improv".

   Leland's act is a mixture of music, impressions, and stand-up comedy. he does unique take-offs on actors, singers and politicians. Leland has a special knack for parody of musical styles from the blues to Bach, country western, R.E.M, the B52's, Bob Dylan Paul Simon and Nirvana.
